Giant Hybrid Cycling Technology - How It Works?
What makes Hybrid Cycling Technology so different from other “electric” bicycles out on the road? The answer lies in a host of technological features that work in unison with your own body’s power output—a seamless extension of your own capabilities.
Step 1 - RideControl Hop on the bicycle, hit the “on” switch on the RideControl command center, select the power mode (Sport, Normal or Economy) and you’re ready to ride. The Technology. Looking for a faster ride? Hoping to ride farther? A simple touch of the RideControl’s three-position power-setting button will assure you are able to ride farther and faster than you ever have. |
Step 2 - PedalPlus Start pedaling and, instantaneously, the hidden PedalPlus power sensor precisely registers the amount of force you’re putting into the pedals. This information is sent directly to the I2 driver unit—the brains of Hybrid Cycling Technology. The Technology. The PedalPlus power sensor is a specially designed torque sensor that registers, then transmits the exact amount of force that the rider exerts on the bicycle’s drivetrain (i.e., the chainrings and chain).
Step 3 - I2 Driver Unit The I2 driver unit receives the information from the PedalPlus sensor and, via its proprietary software, is able to send a smoothed-out power curve demand to the EnergyPak power source. The Technology. The I2 driver unit intelligently and instantly compensates for any erratic pedaling motion by creating a smooth power transmission message to the SyncDrive motor. The benefit is that you’ll experience a smooth ride no matter how rough your pedal stroke.
Step 4 - EnergyPak The EnergyPak power source delivers just the right amount of power to the SyncDrive motor. The Technology. Giant’s EnergyPak lithium ion batteries are one-third the weight of traditional batteries and offer far greater range—about seventy miles (equipped with two batteries and riding in economy mode) versus less than twenty miles utilizing older battery technology. They slip conveniently into integrated panniers, which double to transport any other items you care to bring along. And with the included SmartCharger, you can focus on your ride instead of worrying about maintenance: the SmartCharger automatically determines how much and how long to charge your EnergyPak batteries (a full charge takes about four hours, half the time of traditional batteries).
Step 5 - SyncDrive The SyncDrive motor kicks into gear, helping propel you farther and faster than you’ve ever ridden before. The Technology. Featuring an innovative clutch mechanism, the SyncDrive motor rolls along smoothly, regardless of whether the bicycle is powered. If you were to ever run out of power, simply keep pedaling—it will ride just like a traditional bicycle without any additional drag from the motor
